5 Reasons Why Supergirl is not the best tv show anymore

Supergirl is considered to be one of the epitome of feminism alongside Wonder Woman and the moment the show was announced I was highly enthusiastic about it. I was a huge fan of the then CBS Supergirl. The show was hitting the rights notes when it came to promoting feminism. Supergirl was not just the "all powerful super alien" that can save the planet but she had all the qualities that made, at least to me, relatable. That was the best part about the show I got to see that even the most powerful women on the planet faces the things in daily life we, the normal women face.
But very unfortunately as all good things has to end the show was transferred to the CW Network and I don't have anything against CW, as I am from a country where the network is not even prevalent so it can hardly bother me with the decision they take. The only thing that bothered me the most was the show that I loved so much was made into a pseudo-feminist show.
So, why do I think the show is bad than it used to be? Here is my list of 5 Reasons as to Why the Supergirl show is not the best anymore and how can we improve on it.
5. Supergirl is everywhere:

Well firstly, I know this tag belongs to the Superman and thus everytime Supergirl does anything that is known to be done by Superman there is a constant reminder that since Superman is not here Supergirl is here to save the day.
This is a Supergirl show why do we need to be reminded of her cousin. It can easily be a thing for both of them it is not needed to be constantly reminded that if Superman was here her presence would be absolutely unnecessary.

4. Weakness, who?
When the TV series was under CBS we got to see the vulnerable side of Kara. Even though she was the most powerful girl of the city but still she was clumsy and was trying to work her way through the office and was trying to find herself in the middle of all the celebration as she was getting with her being the Supergirl.
But the moment the show went to CW she seems to be omnipotent, omnipresent and omnibenevolent all of a sudden. She just does not have any weakness whatsoever. Just having a relationship problem does not make it a problem for a girl. Women face plethora of problems in their daily lives and well it is not shown.

3. Idolised by everyone:
Sorry to say this but idolising the Supergirl was one thing but in the recent episodes it seems like people have started to idolise Kara Danvers too. A reporter who has been reporting for just one year has a Fan? Is it even relatable? We, who are professionals, know it very well that it takes a minimum of a decade to earn a reputable position let alone have a Fan. We have hardly seen her works and now we are being shown that she is a popular media reporter.
What I liked about the show was how even being an all powerful girl she had flaws and she idolised Cat Grant and always found solace when talking to her.
It is a very negative thought that when a person becomes powerful that person would not require anyone to idolise, to learn from. It has always been said that there is no perfect age to learn and there is no end to knowledge. We are constantly learning from one or the other and why should Supergirl be any exception.

2. Being reminded that she is SUPER:
I don't remember a single time that Superman was ever being told by people or his peers constantly that he has done a great job. Then why is it for Supergirl? She seems to be reminded on the daily basis that she is Super. “Supergirl you are the best”, “How can you do everything?” all these things are not necessary for the Flash or Arrow then why just her?

1. POWER:
The show constantly portrays the fact the Supergirl is powerful than Superman. Probably that is a canon fact as in the comics it has been stated by superman himself that unlike Superman, Supergirl can be powerful as she has not learned to control her power as she has not grown up in this planet learning to suppress her power.
But power does not always mean physical power but rather there is another branch of power which is the power of diplomacy and fighting with empathy.
There was this one episode that I remember from one of the first two seasons where supergirl lost her powers but still was able to save the day with empathy and that was the best part of that show.

So, the only thing that I wish from the future seasons to be doing is promoting feminism in the actual way and not in a way that it seems to be feminist but rather is just a huge insult to the word itself. Feminism is not degrading men to the level of women but rather empowering women to the level of men. I don't want to see weak men in order to see powerful women, I want to see strong men characters alongside strong female character.

In conclusion, we may say that the show has some great characters but the story that they are put into is not very empowering.

Question of the day:
What do you think? Will we ever get to see a proper feminist storyline in any show in the near future?
