How can Shazam connect the DCEU?

Justice League is not like any other comic team up. It not only represents equality but also it has one gigantic message that is the top Seven Team members represents personalities and promotes that people having these personalities can become heroes.

In this blog I would not bash the DCEU for what they are lacking in but rather I would try to give suggestions as to how can the DCEU connect its universe together slowly with the release of Shazam!

After the huge box office success of the Aquaman movie the DC Fans can just lean back on their sofas as the heavy pressure from the 10 years old MCU is very much starting to loosen up. Like Aquaman, SHAZAM has a very low non-comic loving fan base which makes it simpler to draw the characters onscreen in a manner which makes it flexible to the plot of the whole DCEU.

As Batman and Superman have been done over several times onscreen and all have been in almost a very similar fashion their backstories have been engraved in the minds of the fans. But as these characters i.e. Aquaman and SHAZAM are new to the fans it helps build confidence among the fans and moreover it can be portrayed that even weak considered heroes are powerful to be idolised by children. Not only does this set up the tone of the DCEU but rather it helps in creating the base for the Universe to rely upon.

SHAZAM! is about to hit the theatres on 5th of April and before it comes out let's break down how can the storyline tie up the DCEU movies launched by far and how can it set the stage for the future movies to come in.

The Plot:

“Billy Batson is a streetwise 14-year-old who can magically transform into the adult superhero Shazam simply by shouting out one word. His newfound powers soon get put to the test when he squares off against the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.”

SHAZAM is the perfect movie for the DCEU to set the stage for their upcoming movies. As stated in my earlier blog Shazam is the chance for the DCEU to introduce light-hearted comedy into their universe by keeping the dark tone of Batman and his share of Villains. Moreover it can bring back hope in the life of Superman who is the real representative of that symbol. Billy Batson, like Clark is a resident of Metropolis, and a small cameo from Henry Cavill’s Superman in the movie could make a huge connection with the DCEU.

But it has been proven over the last couple of years that a solo movie like that of Aquaman or Wonder Women can do extremely well at the box office. Furthermore, not doing a connected universe can be a different approach to the superhero franchise, as the earlier is being done by Marvel, it would not look like a rip off of their universe style.

Uniqueness to this universe can only be brought if these movies focus on building the characters for the big Justice League team up movie. It would be great if they concentrate on creating the characters before creating the universe as a whole.

SHAZAM being a new addition to the DCEU can bring up the potential for the upcoming movies as the characters we are dealing with here are kids and they can be shown to be fans of Superheroes as they are growing up in a world full of them who save people. A simple cameo of Superman helping someone before Billy would give him the motivation to become a hero.

For Example

-Scene-

One day when Billy and Freddie was going back to their orphanage they were stopped in the middle of the road by few bullies. Trying to save Freddie, Billy was beaten up. At that very moment Superman shows up at the scene and the bullies runs away by seeing him come. Superman then helps Billy get up and he says “Good Work Kid. I am proud of you”. These very words inspires Billy to help and save people in need and these goodness is seen by the wizard and thus he gives him his powers in return.

Just this much of a scene can tie up this movie into the universe not making it a separate movie altogether. Just like Wonder Women began with a flashback of Diana thinking about the time when she first landed on the land of man by seeing the picture sent by Bruce as a present. Though Aquaman has not done this but hopefully these kind of small hints about the universe in the movie would be made in the future which will make this universe a beautiful garland.

Would Shazam be able to keep up with Wonder Woman and Aquaman?
