Part I: A Fan Fiction on the Tales of King Weasley and the Brightest Witch

HARRY POTTER

 and the
Philosopher’s Stone

Prologue

The Harry Potter Books and Movie Series are a part of every child’s life these days. It has given us a whole new world filled with magic and fantastic beasts. Truthfully stating, every time I read them it feels like I am actually one of the classmates of Harry Potter, and the movie series is even more special to me as I grew up with the characters as the movie progressed.

Though the books have given every possible details that can be brought to light but yet it feels like the characters of Ron and Hermione has not been built particularly well regardless of them being one of the important characters around whom the story of Harry revolves. Somehow there still remains some unanswered questions which the fans have tried to justify in their fan fictions through their way of looking at the books.

It is probably because the whole story is from the perspective of Harry Potter and his adventures and his story is being told through the books or the movies.

But what about the story that Ron and Hermione had and how did the two ended up together with having less than no proper conversation? When most of the time they were arguing with each other in Harry’s presence? So why were they still friends if they disagreed to each other so often or what went behind Harry’s back that kept their friendship grow stronger each year?

Ron and Hermione are my second favourite fictional couple after Chandler and Monica from the TV Series is F.R.I.E.N.D.S. And I ardently advocate for them being best pair of the Harry Potter series against who ever ships differently.

However, the books does not focus on their conversation much. So, I have jotted down my fan fiction regarding the conversations between the characters of Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley in the relevant portions of the books which led to their friendship and ultimately blossomed into a relationship.

Hope I am able to do justice to the characters from the books as has been created by J. K. Rowling. With this article, I would try to connect the dots which has been beautifully placed by her throughout the seven books with regard to the relationship between Ron and Hermione.

Before proceeding any further, I would like to state that if you have not yet read the books or watched the movies please take your time to read or watch them first as there are going to be possible SPOILERS AHEAD and PLEASE read it ALONG WITH Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone Book.

CHAPTER SIX

The Journey from Platform Nine and Three-Quarters

All the kids in the Weasley Family were getting ready for their journey. The smallest boy of the family with blazing red hair yanked himself on the chair before the table and helped himself with a bowl of cereal.

“Good Morning, Ron,” said Mrs. Weasley, a plump woman dressed in a house gown wearing an apron.

“Gurmoring,” said Ron munching on his cereals.

“Have you packed all your books and clothes properly?”

Ron nodded without looking at Mrs. Weasley.

“Good, I’ll bring your trunk down, then,” she took out her wand from her apron and flicked it and the trunk from Ron’s room came floating down the stairs.

Fred and George, two identical twins came running down the stairs throwing their favourite Dr Filibuster's Fabulous Wet-Start, No-Heat Fireworks making a vociferous entrance making Ron and Mrs. Weasley jump.

“Oh you two! Stop making so much noise in the house- and this year-“ she said pointing her finger at them “I warn you two- I don’t want any complaints from the Professors. Do you understand,”

Absolutely, Mum,” both Fred and George said together in a rhythmic way.

“-and I don’t want you two messing around with your little brother. This is his first year and I don’t want him to have a bad experience just because of you two,” continued Mrs. Weasley with a glare.

Of course, Mum,” said both in an unison. "We won’t hurt ickle, Ronnie."

“Don’t worry, Mum, now that I am a prefect I would keep a close watch on these two.” said Percy who came down carrying his trunk.

“Yeah, like that’s going to stop us.” said George.

“Blimey, how many times do you need to mention? We got it the first time,” said Fred irritatingly to Percy.

“Are you prepared for the forbidden forest then, Ron?” said George.  “It is an amazing experience,” he said pouring milk in his bowl.

“Yeah, there are werewolves, centaurs and so many dangerous creatures- who eat up people- ALIVE,” said Fred, he mouthed the last words to Ron. Ron gave a disgruntled look.

“-and yet somehow you two still survive every year,” said Ginny, the youngest of the Weasley's having long flaming red hair, who was standing behind the twins.

Ron gave a smirk at his sister who sat beside him taking a bowl full of cereal and smiled back.

After breakfast Mrs. Weasley got ready to take her children towards the station.

“Come on, Ron, hurry up. We don’t want you to be late on your first day,” said Mrs. Weasley beaconing Ron towards the door.

In 7, Heathgate, Hampstead, a little girl was nervously going through her books sitting on her bed. Her trunk was wide open on the floor but all the things were neatly packed in.

“Come down, dear, it's time,” cried Mrs. Granger.

“Yes, coming Mum,” Hermione cried and quickly packed her books in her trunk. She came down the stairs into the dinning room where Mr. Granger was sitting reading the newspaper.

“Good Morning,” said Mr. Granger beaming at Hermione, putting down the paper.

“Good Morning, Dad” she slowly came in and stood before the chair.

“Don’t worry, it is just another school,” said Mr. Granger walked towards Hermione and put his hand on her shoulder.

“But what if I am not able to get to school in time -or what if I miss the train -or what if the professors hate me and they expel me -or what if I fail?” she said quickly.

“You are worrying about it too much,” said Mr. Granger by getting down on his knees. He looked at her by a glow of love in his eyes with a gentle smile, “and how can you fail, you are the smartest little girl I have ever seen."

"Believe me, you would be the brightest among all the witches and wizards in Hogwarts,” Mr. Granger gave Hermione a tight hug “and if you are still worried just follow the rules and everything will be fine."

“Oh, David, you are getting us all late. It is almost nine now and she has not yet had time to have her breakfast -and then we need to get her to the station –the traffic is always a bit constrained at this hour -this is her first year” said Mrs. Granger all very fast, who was setting up plates on the table in an odd haste.

“Lizzy, she is scared too,” said Mr. Granger looking at Mrs. Granger.

Mrs. Granger who was unable to withheld her emotions anymore turned around with tears in her eyes.

“Oh, why did it had to be a boarding school,” Mrs. Granger came swiftly towards Hermione and flung her arms around her.

“Mum, if you cry I’ll cry,” Hermione’s eyes were filled with tears.

“Oh my little girl,” she kissed on her forehead “you are one brave girl, remember that,” Mrs. Granger wiped Hermione’s eyes and gazed at her. “We will write to you everyday.”

“I think we’re getting ready for something,” said Mr. Granger teasingly.

“Stop it, David,” wiping her face she gave a weak smile to Mr. Granger.

Hermione ate her breakfast while her father brought down her trunk. When the clock stroked ten they left the home towards the station.

They reached to the place between platforms 9 and 10 at Kings Cross Station.

“So, what did she tell us to do again,” said Mr. Granger with a gulp frowning at the wall between platforms 9 and 10.

“Well, Professor McGonagall told us we need to walk through the wall in between platforms 9 and 10 to reach the station,” said Hermione anxiously.

“So, we need to walk through that wall, I guess” said Mr. Granger nodding his head towards the wall.

She shrugged and held her cart as tight as possible. Her heart thumped so hard she felt might have burst out any moment. She stared at the wall with wide-eyes like her parents. Hermione had performed simple spells but going through a wall seemed too much.

“Okay, we will walk in together,” said Mrs. Granger gathering courage.

They both held Hermione’s cart along with her and with a gulp she walked straight through the wall. To her surprise a huge station stood there in front of them. Hermione looked around the station in wonderment. It was all like a dream.

A Scarlet Steam Engine letting off steam stood stationery and children were boarding onto it. Owls whooshed around their owners. The station was packed with chattering crowd of several parents who came to see their children off.

“Let’s find a place for you to sit,” said Mr. Granger dragging the cart ahead.

She slowly walked through the crowd clutching her mother's hand tightly. As she moved closer to the train she could see a family with lava-red hair. She was staring at the little boy, with hair as red as the morning sun, struggling with his rat.

“Okay, Hermione, there you go there is a free space. I have already place your trunk inside. See you,” said Mr. Granger kissing her forehead.

Mrs. Granger gave Hermione a hug and kissed her on the head. "I’ll miss you,” she said with a smile.

When the train gave a whistle Hermione quickly boarded the train, so did all the other students.

“Write to us,” cried Mrs. Granger waving towards Hermione.

“I’ll will,” she shouted as the train started pacing forward.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

Quidditch

As they entered November, Quidditch practice was doubled as Gryffindor would be playing their first match in a week. Harry got up on his feet getting himself ready to go for practice.

“Good luck with your practice, Harry,” said Ron with a bright smile as Harry moved on towards the portrait hole he cried “hope you come back safe, remember we don’t have any reserve Seeker.”

“Thanks, Ron,” said Harry with a grin “you are a great moral booster.”

“Don’t listen to him, Harry, you will do great," she gave a quick glare at Ron. "Professor McGonagall would not have selected you, if you were not good. Good luck.” said Hermione waving back at Harry.

Harry waved back at them "See you after practice." and closed the portrait hole hehind him.

“So? What do you think?“ said Ron sliding a bit on the armchair and staring at the fireplace where the fire was just lit.

“What do you mean?” said Hermione who sat at the armchair opposite to where Ron sat, her face buried under a huge pile of books finishing off her Charms homework.

“I mean, now Harry as a Seeker, do you think we have the chance of winning the Quidditch Cup?” said Ron now sitting up quickly and beaming at Hermione.

“Do you know, last time Gryffindor ever won the cup was when my brother Charlie was in his final year playing as the Seeker, and since-” giving a sigh “well, since then pretty much none of the Seekers have been that good. Fred and George told me that last year we almost came in fourth place,” frowning at the fire.

“I really couldn’t care less, you see.” said Hermione peeking above the books to see Ron staring at the fireplace.

“If I were you, I would rather be concentrating on the homework, not on some stupid game. Professor Filtwick says that this year exams are going to get tougher. We need to concentrate on our studies,” she stated with a concerned look.

“What?” Ron moved his head so fast he was sure he ripped one or two nerves in his neck. “It’s Gryffindor versus Slytherin and you are talking about homework." he snarled rubbing his neck and raising his brows to its fullest so that it hid behind his bright red hair which was covering most of his forehead.

"Are you out of your mind? How can you not like Quidditch?” shocked to his core, he said shaking his head in disbelief. "Quidditch is the world’s best game of sports ever. It is not a stupid game.”

“Well, firstly, I think you are forgetting that I am from a Muggle family where we don't have Quidditch and secondly, I have never heard of this game before,” she said scandalously.

“Oh- right. You have never seen a game of Quidditch," he said thoughtfully. "But I though you knew everything,” looking at Hermione with a smirk, who crossed her hands and narrowed her eyes at this comment. He promptly added “I mean- er- you are the brightest witch of your age. It is hard to believe that you would not know about Quidditch. It's the most known game among all witches and wizards.”

“Okay,” she looking incredulously at Ron. Was that supposed to be a complement she thought “Thanks, Ron.”

She stared open mouthed. “Anyways,” trying to forget what just happened she continued “about Quidditch,“ attentively as if in a class she asked “-what is this game all about?"

Ron explained all the rules and about the different balls and how the game ends with the Seeker catching the golden snitch which earns the team a hundred and fifty points.

Hermione occasionally nodded throughout Ron's speech, showing to have understood but she did not quite follow. This was the first time she was unable to understand a particular subject. She was losing concentration and just stared blankly at Ron.

“Do you know my favourite team is the Chudley Cannon,” continued Ron with a tone of excitement “-they are the best. They have the best players. The Chasers Philomena Mildred, Avel Jacob, Francois Culper, you should see them score, they move like bullets in the air” gesturing with his hands.

“Lachlan Gopple and Esperanza Ulverson are the Beaters, and Ethan Hunter plays as the Seeker. Oh! He is just splendid. He is always the one to spot the snitch before the opponents."

"But my favourite is- Michelle Barrymore,” he said dreamily “she plays as the Keeper. She is the best, you know, the way she keeps, she doesn’t miss a single Quaffle,-” now turning a slight shade of pink.

“Oh! Alright.” she said now coming back in attention “You do know that you are almost red now, right? So, do you fancy- what’s her name again- oh yes! Michelle Barrymore?” asked  Hermione with a smirk.

Ron’s eyes were wide as if he has been caught cheating on an exam, now so red he almost resembled a Quaffle himself, quickly shook head in disagreement.

“No. I don’t know what you are even talking about. I - er- I got to go and finish of my transfiguration homework,” he quickly lied, got up on his feet and stormed out towards the boys dormitory.

"What’s up with him?" she thought frowning at Ron.

Neville was sitting at the corner table with his rolls of parchment, quills and his copy of Beginner’s Guide to Transfiguration by Emeric Switch, who clearly heard all their conversation and was grinning at his books. He looked towards Hermione with a smirk.

“Who wouldn’t?” he said with a bright smile.

Hermione quickly looked at Neville thinking what was Neville talking about.

“She is the best looking Keeper in the world probably. Everyone who follows Quidditch fancies her.” said Neville matter-of-factly going through his Transfiguration homework.

She rolled her eyes at the mention of the Quidditch player. Quidditch again she thought. She quickly changed the topic.

“Do you need help?” she said seeing him struggle with his homework.

“Oh that’s so nice of you. Thank you, I would be glad to get some help with these.”

Only three days were left before the big game. Ron was excited about the upcoming Quidditch match. He, Neville and Seamus was discussing different strategies that Gryffindor can follow during the match among themselves sitting in their dormitory.

Dean joined in after few minutes. All four of them came down in the common room still discussing about the forthcoming match.

"I am telling you, this year no one can beat us," said Seamus. "Dean and I went to see our practice. You should have seen Harry go after the snitch."

After their conversation Dean and Seamus went to the library to finish of their charms homework.

"Where are you going?" said Neville finally finding an empty space beside the fire.

"I am going to find Hermione and ask her to come to the game with us. Hopefully after watching the game she might like it," said Ron and walked out of the portrait hole.

"Hermione! Oi, Hermione!” cried Ron seeing Hermione walk in the library and ran towards her. He stopped before her as she came out the door through which she just stepped inside.

Panting from his run he said  “Would you come-“ he exhaled loudly “to the game-with-me. I mean- if you don’t want- you don’t have to- but- I don’t know-“ running his fingers through his hair looking everywhere but at her.

“I was thinking-” he took a quick glance at her who was staring blankly at him, Ron hesitated but quickly added “I mean, Dean, Seamus and Neville are coming to the game too. I just thou-” he looked at her and said “er- I just thought if you would like to – I mean, probably if you watch it, you would like the game too,” raising his brows hopefully.

“I really don’t know about the game. I would be bored and-” said Hermione.

But before she could finish Ron started “Oh! I understand. It’s- it’s OK” said Ron shrugged, putt ing his head down a bit, running his fingers clumsily through his bright red hair he turned around and started to walk towards the common room.

Seeing Ron’s dreary look Hermione cried “OK. I’ll- I’ll come. But I am not quite sure of liking the game though.”

Ron stopped and turned back excitedly and said “You will love the game, believe me, it is-”

“-let me guess, world’s best game of sports.” Hermione finished his sentence with a smirk.

In the next evening, Harry was again busy with his Quidditch practice, Hermione came in through the portrait hole into the common room holding a pile of books which she borrowed from the library.

She sat down on the armchair placing all the books beside her. She took out Enigmatic Tales of Mythical Creatures by Altas Orbis from them and started to read. Ron was lying on his belly on the hearthrug struggling with his potions homework.

“Where have you been?” said Ron looking up at Hermione “I have been looking for you. The game is closing in and I have not yet finished my Potions homework. You said you would help me out with this or are you planning to get me into detention on the day of the match with Snape- Snape.” sniggered Ron.

“Oh- right- I was- I was at the library” Hermione was focused on reading.

Really, and I am getting mad over here with this,” he said grumpily. Ron sat up and turned his back at her, staring at the fire, “You of all people should know that I love Quidditch. I really don’t want to miss the Slytherin versus Gryffindor game.”

“Yes, I know, but-" she murmured "anyways, I will be helping you as I promised. Right, let's see what have you done till now,” she looked towards Ron stretching out her arm.

“Thanks, Hermione!” turning towards her with a big smile and handed out his piece of parchment on which he had managed to write the heading of the essay, “I might have already been expelled if it weren’t for you.” he was beaming at her.

“Might? Might? You should be expelled,” she said shaking her head, “This essay was given a week ago, Ron- a week- and this is what you have managed to write- the heading,” pressing her lips tightly to stop her from laughing out at his effort. Ron just gave a shrug at her.

“and next time- you might like to do these by yourself, or else how will you ever learn?” she sneered as she buried her face in the potions book and started scribbling notes for Ron on a different parchment.

After about fifteen minutes or so she got up seeing Ron talking to Neville about Quidditch. She gave a sharp blow at the back of Ron’s head with the parchment she was scribbling on. Ron sat up staring at her with a look of shame, rubbing the back of his head where the parchment hit him

“I am making notes for you and you are busy gossiping around about a stupid game. I-can’t-believe-it,” snapped Hermione, widening her eyes and giving him a glare which look similar to that of Professor McGonagall. “Go through these and finish it off," she jabbed the parchment onto Ron.

Harry entered the common room after his usual practice session and lay flat on his back on the hearthrug next to where Ron was sitting.

“I think I am going to be sick with all the practice-“ said Harry and gave a deep sigh “I don’t know how much can I continue, and I have all the homework pending as well,” he frowned looking at the ceiling.

“Don’t worry, I was helping Ron, I can help you as well.” said Hermione.

“Thanks, Hermione,” said Harry with a weak smile.

“-and I think I have something you might like,” she took out a book from the pile of books she brought from the library and gave it to Harry.

Quidditch through the Ages,” Harry sat up and read the book cover out aloud “Thanks, Hermione. This would help a lot,” excitedly going through the pages with a quick glance.

What” Ron bended over with a curious look towards Harry to see the book “were you doing with a book on Quidditch?” he said to Hermione frowning. “I thought you hate Quidditch.

“Wh- when did I ever say I hate Quidditch?” she said with a scandalous look. “I only said I don’t know anything about it. So I went to the library to read about the history of the game and the ways it is played”.

“Oh, can’t live without being a total know-it-all, can you now?” Ron said coldly.

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Nicolas Flamel

Harry went for his usual Quidditch practice. The second match against Hufflepuff were now the biggest concerns as they would now have the chance of coming at the second place after Slytherin so the practice were now even tougher. Harry bid Ron and Hermione goodbye and they wished him best for the practice.

“You want to play chess, Hermione?” said Ron taking out the old chess set of Seamus.

“Are you planning on failing this year or what- and you laugh every time I lose," said Hermione.

“Forget it, I think I’ll ask Seamus?” he shook his head and looked around to ask Seamus “Se-"

“Alright, I’ll play with you,” Hermione cut in before Ron could ask Seamus.

“Like she’s doing some favour,” Ron said under his breath.

Half way through the game Hermione’s most of the pawns along with a rook and both of her bishops were taken out and she only managed to get two pawns, a rook and a knight but that was only because Ron sacrificed them for clearing his way out strategically.

“You know it’s not funny. I don't laugh when you can't perform a simple spell properly,” snarled Hermione looking at the smirking that Ron was giving.

“Well, there are more important things than books and cleverness, Hermione” said Ron still concentrating on this chess men with a hand on his chin.

“Really? And what is that?”

“You are the clever one, figure that one by yourself.”

Hermione gazed him with an awe in her face, while Ron took one of her knight. She made a swift move without a thought which made Ron frown at the board.

Hermione took a quick glance at the door as Harry had entered the common room but Ron was still deep into concentration staring at the chess board to make his new move.

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

The Man with Two Faces

“Ron! Ron! Are you alright?” cried Hermione.

Ron was sitting on the floor with scratches and bruises.

“What happened? Where is Harry?” said Ron weakly.

“Long story, we need to inform Professor Dumbledore and warn him about the Philosopher’s Stone at once," said Hermione.

“Oh OK. Let's go then,” Ron got up on his feet holding his chest, still feeling a bit dizzy. Hermione help him walk out the door.

“You go ahead I am coming right behind you,” said Ron stopping behind. He was still feeling pain in his ribs and was unable to walk properly.

“What? No. I am not leaving you like this.”

“OK. We have wasted a lot of time by now,” he said trying to stand properly by himself. "Let's go then," he said weakly.

They both walked as fast as they could towards the Owlery. Halfway through their course they saw Dumbledore walking swiftly towards them.

“Professor, Harry-“ said Hermione.

“I know. Harry went after him, hasn’t he?” stated Dumbledore. “You two should get to Madam Pomfrey and get some potion for your injuries,” he dashed out of sight.

Ron gapped at him for a while and walked slowly towards the hospital wing with the help of Hermione.

“Do you think he will be alright?” said Hermione.

“Absolutely, Dumbledore is going there. He will be fine, stop worrying.” assured Ron putting his hand on her shoulder.

“Yes, you are right,” she nodded in agreement.

They took the potions given by Madam Pomfrey and went towards the common room.

“Sure she gave us a potion? That tasted more like poison to me,” said Ron in disgust.

When they entered the common room everyone just jumped in front of them with unending questions. Dean, Neville and Seamus was gazing at them with pride. Parvati and Lavender both stared at them in shock.

Ron started telling about the story how he defeated Professor McGonagall's transfigured chessmen. He explained everything thing in details.

“Amazing! You did all that. That’s so brave of you two,” said Lavender gapping at Ron’s story.

Hermione stood there seeing everyone gapping and goggling at them with shock and pride.

At that moment the portrait hole swung open and Percy barged in and looked at Ron half bemused half shocked.

There you are. I have been searching all over for you for hours now.” he said staring at Ron “I even checked in the hospital wing. What do you think you were doing there? I was worried sick,”

“Yeah, he almost choked us to death with his questioning. Good to see you back all in one piece,” said George. The twins pushed their way towards Ron and Hermione.

“Glad to see you back,” said Fred giving Ron a side hug. Ron gave a smirk.  “and you too Hermione,” smiling at Hermione with pride.

“Don’t get used to this, though, you are still pathetic,” said George smirking and gave Ron a big pat on his back.

Percy continued “Anyways, I am glad to see you two OK.” He went and gave Ron a quick hug and smiled at Hermione.

Hermione smiled back. She was gazing with a slight smile at the reactions of the brothers of Ron hugging, teasing, laughing.

“Wow, Percy, I think you are turning into a human again,” Ron said teasingly.

“Oh! and I think that you are allowed to visit your friend, Harry Potter. He is back in the hospital wing. I saw Dumbledore talking to him,” he said in his usual haughty tone.

What? You are saying that now?” Ron exclaimed “Come on,” he said beaconing Hermione towards the portrait hole as he ran towards it.

They reached the hospital wing but was stopped at the door by Madam Pomfrey.

“No. Absolutely not. He needs to have a good rest before the feast today,” said Madam Pomfrey.

“But- but” unable to find words Ron turned to Hermione for some help.

“You have to let us talk to him, please, Madam Pomfrey,” said Hermione.

“I have stated already, he needs rest. You can meet him at the feast tonight,” said Madam Pomfrey and went inside.

They both walked out the hospital wing towards common room after visiting Harry.

“He fought You-Know-Who, can you believe that! Brilliant.” Ron said excitedly.

“Yes, but he could have been seriously injured. That’s exactly why I don’t like to break rules.”

“I can never imagine myself facing you-know-who,” ignoring Hermione's words.

“You were very brave yourself out there. Risking your life to let us go on.”

“My brothers, Fred and George, do all kinds of crazy stuff each year. It’s not a big deal.”

“But you should be happy you have your brothers around you. I am the only child,” said Hermione. Ron shrugged.

“Well- it’s not that great too, you know. I have five brothers and everyone is really brilliant at what they do. It's hard to live upto their expectations,” he said in his gloomy tone. “Three of them you have already met, Fred, George and Percy, of course- and there is Bill, who is in Egypt working for Gringotts Bank and then there is Charlie who lives in Romania- he is a Dragon Trainer- and my little sister, Ginny. She would join Hogwarts next year.”

They kept chatting till they reached the portrait of the Fat Lady.

“What is the password?” asked the Fat Lady

“Oh! Emeritus” said Hermione

“Very well, you may enter,” said the Fat Lady.

“Oh no!” said Ron.

"What? said Hermione.

“I forgot, I have not yet packed my trunk. See you at the feast,” and Ron galloped towards the dormitory.
