The Flash S04xE16 - Run Iris Run - Development of the character of Iris

The Flash:
When we first entered into the fourth season of The Flash it was very clear that the show runners have finally realised what they initially intended to do with the show and that even became true as they did the soft reboot to the show and gave all the fans the well-deserving light hearted Barry who is a part of the CCPD and also is a great Speedster. That is the Barry we know from the comics or the animation, which ever place we know him from.

Iris West-Allen:

But slowly and steadily from the very beginning the show kept on blurring their 2nd main lead that being Iris West. The show runners completely kept on ignoring the fact that Iris West is not just a life partner of the Flash. She is not just a lightning rod to the Flash. She has her own identity as well. And they gave her an identity of the leader of Team Flash. A person who has no background in science and technology but rather who is known for her journalist skills, especially the one who works on field was given a behind-the-desk job  as a watchman to look after a team of meta-humans and she even has to come up with various strategies to fight against the villains of Central City.
The character of Iris was never given a proper direction but now with the Episode of "Run Iris Run" it seems the writers have given some thought towards the character building of Iris. Many people have suggested that Iris should not have been given the superpowers at all, but when I watched the episode it gave me a realisation that at the end of final season, she made a choice of sacrifice for holding the team together when Barry was trapped in the Speedforce Prison. She was the only one who Barry trusted the most and she, to keep alive the memory of Barry, didn't let Star Labs fall apart without the presence of Barry/The Flash in it.

So when she was given the powers she took it as a challenge as if she somehow regained her true love that was to be on the field, to risk her life to snatch out a story, that is what made Iris strong. She realised it. She took her powers and helped save the City, not as good as the Flash could have but surely was enough to capture the bad guy for the day. But she was not meaning to be a Speedster for life as her calling was from a different field and thus finally at the end of the episode she took up her blogging career.

From this point onwards the Iris character, as I presume, would gain more of a journalistic role and have a better character build up. This chapter was just the beginning of Journalist Iris West-Allen. There have been many comments on Candice Patton being a bad choice for the role as she has not been a comic accurate version of the character. But slowly we will hopefully get to see a little bit more accuracy on her character. As we even in our general life don't get the exact things that finally would be the perfect choice for us. If we consider Iris to be a normal human being and not just a character from the comics we might get to relate to Iris West-Allen and get to understand the circumstances she went through and the way she made her choices were accurate in those situations for any normal person like us.
